Driver crashes car into Sedona fire station Friday night

SEDONA AZ (May 6, 2013) – Shortly before midnight, Friday, May 3, 2013, Sedona Fire District (SFD) fire station #3 crews were alerted to the sound of a vehicle accident outside the fire station. The crew ran down the stairs and found a car had driven into its station’s fire apparatus bay.

Like true professionals, the station crew immediately began to provide medical care to the lone driver. The vehicle’s driver was transported to Verde Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

“We respond to accidents all the time. This is certainly one that we will probably never forget,” said SFD Fire Chief Kris Kazian.

The station crew also performed a building safety and a fire engine damage assessment. The force of the car crash caused a fire engine to be pushed about two feet resulting in significant damage to the passenger vehicle, the station’s bay door, and the impacted reserve Fire Engine 532.

Although a reserve engine, 532 is an important unit of the SFD response fleet, explained Fire Marshal Gary Johnson.

The Sedona Fire District will be working with the fire district insurer and the driver’s insurance company to determine a course of action and resolution that will address damages caused by the accident.

The Sedona Fire Station #3 is located in the Village of Oak Creek on Slide Rock Road.
