Sedona AZ (October 25, 2014) – Three California men were arrested after Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered 19 pounds of marijuana in their Mitsubishi vehicle on AZ Interstate 40, east of Ash Fork, Arizona.

YCSO deputies stopped a vehicle at approximately 8:30 in the morning to find the driver, Kiefer Carter, 18, was driving on a suspended license. A YCSO canine unit alerted to the trunk of the Lancer and officers located hidden marijuana inside.

As Carter and passenger Christopher Abey, 18, were secured by deputies, a second passenger, Ryan Rash, 27, ran across all four lanes of Interstate 40 traffic and into the desert. He hid in a gravel pit area north of Ash Fork and was found just after 1:00 in the afternoon.

All three men were booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on felony drug charges.

Deputies on-scene found that three more men were involved in the transportation of the marijuana shipment. YCSO located the second trio in a vehicle several miles away and detained them. Nearly three grams of methamphetamine was also found in the front passenger compartment of the second vehicle.

YCSO confirmed the association between the six men via a two way communication system that connected both vehicles. The three men, Richard Lee, 33, David Brawley, 32, and Charles Robertson, 30, are also from California.
