C.G. Jung’s RED BOOK

Sedona AZ-April 10 2010–C.G. Jung’s recently published Red Book is his sixteen year exploration of the Psyche and foundation for his life’s work.  After Jung broke with Freud, he came to believe that myth, symbol and archetype were the language of the unconscious mind. The Red Book is a very personal account of Jung’s journey into the depths of the unconscious and tells of his battle between the world of reality and the world of Spirit.  It is full of priceless wisdom, rich art work and Jung’s fascinating dialogues with figures from the unconscious.

In this rare opportunity, the public is invited to view a copy of Jung’s Red Book during Temenos Healing Arts Center’s open house event on April 10th between 1:00pm-4:00pm. Temenos is a new community resource for Jungian and symbolic approaches to healing, personal growth and therapy. Located in west Sedona at 70 Tortilla Drive, Suite B, near the fire station, Temenos provides support for both children and adults, including Jungian Sandplay, weekly Dream Groups, individual sessions, Music and expressive therapies, and Vedic Astrology classes and consultations. During the open house you can learn more about these services and meet with the practitioners.   Throughout the afternoon there will be presentations of music, poetry and artwork inspired by dreams and inner work as well as information about upcoming workshops “Awaken the Creative Muse” and “The Search for the Beloved.”    Temenos is a Greek word meaning the sacred space surrounding a temple or an altar. C.G. Jung used this word to speak of the inner space deep within us where soul-making takes place.   The temenos is often referred to as the alchemical container for transformation, the vessel or sacred “vas” which holds the process of transmuting and refining lead into gold.

The open house is an opportunity to see the children’s Sandplay and therapeutic play area. Sandplay is a Jungian approach developed by Dora Kalff, a close colleague of C.G. Jung. Often called the “wonderful therapy,” the client creates a world in the sand with symbolic figures chosen from shelves of miniatures depicting all aspects of life. Similar to a waking dream, the symbols express the client’s inner life beyond words and help to activate the healing forces within.     Laura Harness, MA, MT-BC has a Masters in Integral Counseling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies and specializes in Jungian Sandplay, Dream work and expressive arts therapies.    A Board Certified Music Therapist, Laura Harness has over 20 years experience working with children in a variety of clinical settings.   The Sandplay and expressive therapy process helps children to heal, restore balance and move forward developmentally, often improving the whole family’s quality of life.    Although Sandplay was originally developed for children, it is also meaningful for adults who seek an alternative to traditional talk therapy incorporating creative process and dream work.
Weekly dream groups, facilitated by JoHanna McNamee and Laura Harness, are held on Thursday nights from 7:00pm-9:00pm. JoHanna earned her Master’s degree in Depth Psychology from Sonoma State University and is certified in DreamTending from Pacifica Graduate Institute. DreamTending is a highly effective method of working with dreams which animates the “living images” bringing deep wisdom, self-awareness and insight.   Dreams are purposeful messages from the psyche which help us to assimilate our life experiences in meaningful and creative ways; they give practical guidance concerning all aspects of life. JoHanna facilitates DreamTending groups, workshops and individual sessions.
Weekly Vedic Astrology classes are held on Monday nights from 6:30pm-8:30pm with Dennis Harness, PhD.    Vedic Astrology is the astrology from India which is based on the sidereal zodiac and the wisdom of the ancient Vedic texts from which yoga, ayruveda and Hinduism were derived.  Dennis is a professional astrologer who holds a doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology. For more than twenty years, Dennis has studied both Eastern and Western techniques of astrology and he teaches workshops on Vedic Astrology and Transpersonal Psychology throughout the world. He is the author of The Nakshatras: The Lunar Mansions of Vedic Astrology, which is published by Lotus Press.  Dennis is also available for Vedic Astrology consultations at  http://www.dennisharness.com.   For more information regarding the Temenos open house contact (928) 300-6378.
