Beaver Creek Washes Becoming Trash Pits

Beaver Creek Trash
Beaver Creek trash (mattresses used by homeless)

I was recently invited by Pam Welch of the Verde Valley Roverett’s to survey illegally dumped litter on Beaver Creek, off of Cornville Road.

The photographs attached clearly show another example of why someone may decide or regret moving to our area, or visiting tourists will take their dollars elsewhere.
Residents must pay attention to the areas around them, get out and about, and pick up blowing trash if only in your immediate living spaces. Every little bit of trash that you pick up and properly discard will help save our fragile desert flora and fauna, and our life-sustaining Verde River and Valley.

It’s time for local eco-friendly citizens and groups to wake up!

Responsible citizens carry disposable trash bags in the car or hiking knapsakes and use them! Never toss cigarettes, use car ashtrays. Drop big disposables off to the appropriate recycling or landfill. If your disposables are too large for you to handle, email or contact Folksville USA for help, or for helpful information.

Do your part.

Be involved.

Join a Litter Lifter event on May 21 (see SedonaEye.com’s stories and Calendar of Events for locations).

Thank you on behalf of a beautiful Arizona and America!  Story and Photographs submitted by Gary Chamberlain, Cornville USA.

  1. ADOT and Community Take Note! says:

    ADOT and Comunity,

Between Highway 260 (Cottonwood to Camp Verde) and Scenic Highway 89A (Cottonwood to Sedona) I’m estimating that over 120 bags of trash were recovered this weekend on Armed Forces Day.

This brings the total bags of litter recovered between Cottonwood and Sedona on Scenic Highway 89A in 2011 to 332 bags.

These bags will be recovered and delivered to Rusty’s Morningstar Ranch before 5/31/11 for recycling.

By leaving this trash on the highway, this is another great opportunity to educate the public through the Memorial Day holiday as to the amount of trash that gets dumped onto the highway especially during our holidays.

Thanks for being our “Partner” in this Community & ADOT effort.

    Gary Chamberlain, Cornville resident
