Attorney Disciplined for Practicing Law During Suspension

PHOENIX AZ (February 24, 2012) – The Arizona Supreme Court has ordered that Ronald S. Matheny be suspended from the practice of law for 150 days.

Matheny was originally suspended from the practice of law in April 2008 (In re: Matheny, SB-08-003-D (2008)).  On February 10, 2010 and while still suspended, he created an estate plan for the father of a co-worker. Matheny did not meet with or communicate with the co-worker’s father about the estate plan or whether it met the father’s needs. He also failed to respond to the State Bar’s initial screening investigation.

The Supreme Court of Arizona ordered that Matheny be suspended from the practice of law effective January 24, 2012.  He must pay $1,200 for the costs and expenses incurred by the State Bar of Arizona for the proceedings.

Following the conclusion of his 150-day suspension, Ronald S. Matheny will be required to undergo formal proceedings should he seek reinstatement to the practice of law. Appropriate probation terms for him will be assessed at the conclusion of any formal proceeding should he be reinstated at that time.
