Arizona Time Zone Bill Delayed

Arizona State SealSedona AZ (January 11, 2015) – Arizona State Representative Phil Lovas today released the following statement regarding HB 2014, the bill meant to move the state to Mountain Daylight Time:

“Last week I introduced House Bill 2014, which would have moved Arizona to Mountain Daylight Time.  I did this after having conversations with some in the business community about the challenges of Arizona not changing time zones.

I have received many responses to the proposed bill, and while some have favored it, the majority of the feedback has been against the idea for various reasons.

As an elected official I always listen to the voters. Therefore, I have decided not to move the bill any further and asked the Speaker to hold the bill indefinitely, essentially killing it, so we can focus instead on the budget, public education, public safety and the many other serious issues currently facing our state.”

  1. Why would any legislature attempt this when Rome is burning?? Get to work on the big stuff and leave the drivel for the future or not at all. It doesn’t make one damn difference to businesses. Even the Hopi and Navajo rez’s don’t care and they cross a street to different zones.

  2. Warren says:

    @ Rick and Greta Darling — Ditto. I could not believe it when I saw this bill had been introduced. At least Lovas came to his senses in a short period of time.

    DST has been linked to increased risk of heart attacks as well as more traffic accidents, suicides, and workplace injuries. Really. Read about it here: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/04/17/daylight-saving-time-effects.aspx

    This one I couldn’t resist tossing in my two cents.

    Every weekend when I speak with my sister in Salt Lake City “she” reminds me if we’re on the same “time” which is now (I think.) However, when we talked last Saturday I informed her about the latest attempt here in Arizona to fix something that “ain’t broke” = resurrect DST. And, as a matter of fact, Utah is one of the states presently attempting to do away with it.

    For once a really dumb idea has been scrubbed before more time was wasted on something that clearly people do not want. Guess miracles do happen. Best we earmark this for future reference to prove it is possible?

    @E. Maddock

    I suppose you’re going to blame the CoC for this also?

  5. E. Maddock says:

    @Rockin Roger

    Gee, it never occurred to me until you mentioned it. Maybe I should?

    @Rockin Roger

    Forgot to ask. Why do you feel the need to use a pseudo name? How sad if you feel embarrassed to identify your true self.

  7. Rockin Roger says:

    Right back @ cha ESM I’m sorry Eddie I know that you also have gone by a number of pseudo names in the past, my real name is Roger. What more do you want?????

  8. Sister Suzy says:

    Shucks, Rockin Roger. You’re just too dang smart for your own good. Dream on and wait for the tooth fairy to leave money under your whatever.

  9. Rockin Roger says:

    @ sister Suzy

    I’m sorry perhaps you need to take an extra prozac or two.

    Just caught up with your complete (idiotic, in my opinion) BULLY tactic approach to Eddie Maddock (as you suggested she would blame the Sedona Regional Chamber of Commerce for the dumb bill to change the time zone in Az which was essentially killed by the maker).

    I don’t give a damn if your name is Ralph or Ed, Roger, Tom, Sedona Resident etc or how many other pseudo names you seem to enjoy to play with. What I do care about is when there is no argument going on – YOU always (in what ever form you choose to use) attempt to light an unnecessary fire and very impolite, rude and Bulling argument.

    Get over yourself and your anger and finally realize that every single person is entitled (by US Constitution) to their own opinion. I realize that means you too. But can’t you please stop being such a bully and just let thoughts be spoken and you respond respectfully?

    Perhaps you should take your own advice to Sister Suzy about “need to take an extra prozac or two”.

    @ Rockin Roger sounds like you taken to much Cialis or Levitra

  12. BJ says:

    Speaking of the Chamber of Commerce, how long do you suppose it will take them and their allies like Rockin Roger to try and take credit for the amazing turnout at Poco on Saturday for the annual return of the original Sedona Bridal Fair?

    Well guess what? That was accomplished by a legitimate non-profit without one cent of city money. Those “regional” businesses that participated did so without draining city coffers to promote them. If that Chamber has the audacity to claim the increased numbers of Sedona visitors is because of their destination marketing efforts, then they should be challenged to prove it because it would be a blatant lie.

    Hats off to Poco Diablo and Sedona Community Organization for another beneficial event and contribution without draining city coffers for their own agenda.

    @BJ

    What? Since this has been ongoing for several years why was it former City Councilor Barbara Litrell kept hounding Jennifer Wesselhoff of the Chamber of Commerce to pursue having weddings in Sedona? Shameful, is what it is. The stench continues to grow IMO.
