Joseph Kennedy arrested on animal cruelty and drug charges

Sedona AZ (June 19, 2014) – On June 16, 2014, 27-year-old Joseph Kennedy from Cornville, Arizona, was arrested for two felony counts of Cruelty to Animals, along with Possession of Dangerous Drugs and Paraphernalia.

The original incident, as reported last week by Yavapai Silent Witness, occurred just before 9:00 in the morning on June 11, 2014. At that time, witnesses called the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office after seeing a man throw a puppy from a vehicle travelling approximately 50 miles per hour on Cornville Road. The puppy was recovered and treated at a local emergency vet clinic for significant neurological issues as a result of the incident.

Following several calls to Yavapai Silent Witness, Kennedy was identified as a suspect and an earnest search began for Kennedy. He was spotted in the back of a truck stopped in a Cottonwood, Arizona, convenience store parking lot by a YCSO deputy. As the truck began moving, Kennedy ducked down but it was too late. The truck was stopped and Kennedy was detained.

During the arrest, Kennedy became uncooperative and was handcuffed. A search of Kennedy’s property revealed three personal use packages of methamphetamine and associated drug paraphernalia.

During follow-up of this case, deputies learned Kennedy had been in a fight with his apparent girlfriend the day of the incident. Kennedy was “distraught,” and while riding with others in a friend’s car, tossed the dog from the vehicle because he didn’t care for the animal. At the time of the animal cruelty incident, Kennedy’s eight month old son was also in the car.

After Kennedy’s arrest, deputies asked where his son could be found to perform a welfare check. Kennedy refused to provide the location, however, utilizing sources, YCSO located the child in good health under the care of a Cottonwood baby sitter. Children’s Protective Services took custody of the infant.

Kennedy was booked at the Camp Verde Detention on charges and remains in-custody on a $17,500 bond.

YCSO would like to thank the public for their assistance with this case. YCSO Animal Control Officers monitored the care given to the puppy and report that she is now doing well in a foster home.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260.

  1. appropriate punishment says:

Throw him out of a truck doing 50 mph.

  2. Collar on for life, when he tries to leave his property let it give shocks that keeps him fenced in forever or neuter him. One future loser offspring enough. What girl would mate with that? They don’t get to keep the puppy but the kid?%^&*(()*&^
