Sedona AZ (January 16, 2015) – Just before noon today, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Bagdad, Arizona, airstrip after being notified of a downed airplane. The pilot, Donald Low, 79, a Bagdad resident, was the only occupant. He suffered non-life threatening injuries to his right leg and was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment.

The plane was a home built light weight aircraft, Airsoft, with a 35 horsepower engine and single seat. The pilot told deputies he was taking off for a test flight when a wind gust hit one of the struts causing the wing to bend. He was unable to control the plane at that point and crashed.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) was notified and is investigating. Citizens may contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260.
