ADOT Interstate 17 Traffic Alert for the week of May 27 – May 31, 2013

Sedona AZ (May 28, 2013) – Motorists traveling on Arizona Interstate 17 south of Camp Verde from Midnight until 3:00 a.m. this week will need to plan ahead and allow extra travel time due to overnight construction on a climbing lane project, advises the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Overnight work will require two one-hour closures in both directions on I-17 as crews continue blasting rock cuts along the highway tonight, Tuesday, May 28 through Friday, May 31, 2013.

The first closure is scheduled from Midnight to 1:00 a.m. and the second closure between 2:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m.

Traffic on northbound I-17 will be stopped at Arizona State Route 169 and southbound I-17 traffic will be stopped at General Crook Trail until the area is reopened.

In addition to the full closures, drivers can expect single-lane restrictions in both directions through the work zone between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., Tuesday through Friday.

Drivers on northbound I-17 should be alerted to a pilot car in the work zone to safely guide traffic between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. nightly.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. It is suggested that you carry potable water and, if you have an animal friend riding with you in the car, leash it prior to exiting your vehicle to avert any mishaps.

The $11.8 million project will add a third traffic lane in two different areas along southbound AZ I-17 to help move traffic climbing along Copper Canyon Hill near Camp Verde (mileposts 280-287).

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
