For those traveling that night, please note the following 24-hour gasoline station locations:
  • I-10 and SR 90
  • The junction of SR 90 and SR 82
  • Colossal Cave Road/Wentworth Road (exit 279) (Note: This is the last gas station on eastbound I-10 before the detour onto SR 83.)
  • SR 82 and 83 (Note: Two stores with fuel pumps are located in this area and the stores will be closed, but the fuel pumps at both locations are open 24 hours for credit card purchases.)
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone and detours with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule. To stay up-to-date with the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center at www.az511.gov or call 5-1-1.

Road off-ramp near Eloy to close for 48-hours this week
The Toltec Road (Exit 203) off-ramp for westbound Interstate 10 will be closed for paving from 7 p.m. Tuesday (April 26) to 6 a.m. Thursday (April 28). Signage will be placed along the construction zone directing motorists to detour around the closure using alternate exits. The following detour will be available: Motorists on westbound I-10 wishing to exit at Toltec Road will be directed to exit at Sunland Gin Road (Exit 200), where they may re-enter I-10 heading eastbound to return to Toltec Road. What to expect during the closure: Motorists on Toltec Road will be able to access westbound I-10 using the on-ramp to Interstate 10. Motorists using the detour should expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Construction crews and signs will
direct traffic through the detour. Drivers should allow extra travel time for travel between Phoenix and Tucson while the ramp restriction is in effect. Drivers need to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. Interstate 10 is being widened from two to three lanes in each direction between Picacho and Casa Grande to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety along this heavily traveled corridor. The $31.3 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project is anticipated to be complete during spring 2012. The construction project schedule is subject to change due to a variety of reasons, including weather, material availability and mechanical difficulties. Useful for me and others. Now put up a weather widget. Site is getting better each time I check.

(SedonaEye.com Editor: Thank you, Ted J. We did consider a weather option for the Eye but since Sedona weather ranges from “beautiful” to “even more beautiful” we determined it unnecessary. If global warming affects Sedona adversely, we will revisit our decision. Happy reading!)

  2. ADOT UPDATE - ROAD REOPENS says:

Both directions of the highway are reopened between SR 90 and SR 83 after overnight closure to remove old Marsh Station and Mescal Road/J-Six Ranch Road bridges.

TUCSON – The Arizona Department of Transportation has reopened both directions of Interstate 10 east of Tucson between State Route 90 and SR 83. The highway had been closed overnight to provide a safe work zone for the removal of the old Marsh Station Bridge and the Mescal Road/J-Six Ranch Road Bridge, which was damaged by a fire on March 15.

The planned closure began at 9 p.m. on Friday (April 8) between SR 83 east of Tucson (exit 281) and SR 90 near Benson (exit 302). Westbound I-10 was reopened at 6:30 a.m. this morning. Due to equipment issues, the reopening of eastbound I-10 was delayed until 7:45 a.m. During the bridge demolition project, motorists were guided by signs through a 67-mile detour.

The Mescal Road/J-Six Ranch Road Bridge and the old Marsh Station Bridge were demolished at the same time to avoid another closure and minimize impacts to the traveling public.

The demolition and removal of the Marsh Station Bridge is part of a $10 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project and ADOT’s continued investment in Arizona’s interstate highway system. The project includes the new Marsh Station traffic interchange, the extension of Marsh Station Road, drainage improvements and the realignment of approximately three miles of the Union Pacific Railroad line to the north of I-10.

Now that the fire-damaged Mescal Road/J-Six Ranch Road bridge has been removed, ADOT will be working on selecting the contractor and plans to begin construction this summer to build a new bridge at the site. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
