ADOT Begins Chino Valley Bridge Repairs

ADOT photoSedona AZ (September 6, 2013) – The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin making improvements to the Big Chino Wash Bridge on State Route 89, approximately eight miles north of Chino Valley (milepost 335 to 336) on Monday, September 9, 2013, weather permitting. The Chino Valley bridge work consists of widening the existing bridge and replacing its decking followed by re-striping the roadway.

During construction, AZ SR 89 will be narrowed to one lane through spring 2014, the project’s expected completion date. A temporary signal will be placed at both ends of the bridge and the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph to allow drivers safe travel through the work zone.

adot highwayDrivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes. Use extreme caution when workers are present on the bridge.

In addition to the Big Chino Bridge repair work, Del Rio Bridge on AZ SR 89 (mileposts 332 to 333) will be under construction starting in mid-October for bridge improvements and re-striping. The Del Rio Bridge work will require an around-the-clock single-lane restriction.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

  1. Bridge work north of Chino Valley on SR 89 will affect drivers this week – Delays of up to 30 minutes are expected.

Construction has started to replace the Del Rio Ranch bridge on State Route 89, approximately eight miles north of Chino Valley. A temporary detour will be constructed around the work zone and paving is scheduled on the west side of the bridge starting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 1.

Drivers will be stopped for up to 30 minutes between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. approaching each end of the bridge to allow paving equipment to access the new detour.

Traffic will be switched to the detour Thursday, October 3 starting at 6:30 a.m. The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph through the work zone for the next three months.

Initially work was scheduled to begin on the Big Chino Wash bridge but that work has now been shifted to the Del Rio bridge due to standing water under the Big Chino bridge.

Work will resume on the Big Chino bridge once the work at Del Rio has been completed.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. If traveling with pets, carry a leash and potable water for unexpected delays.

  2. Thanks for the update. It is appreciated.
