Sedona AZ (February 2, 2014) – On January 23, 2014, a truck loaded with hundreds of boxes of the new 2014 Big and Little Kids Book rolled into Prescott, Arizona. The Big and Little Kids Book, a free resource guide for families in Yavapai County, is created and funded through a partnership between the Yavapai County Community Foundation and First Things First.

Fortunately for Tracey McConnell of YCCF and Cindy Pemberton of First Things First, coordinators of book distribution, the Prescott Valley Canine Unit, Prescott Police Department, and Cottonwood Police Department were prepared to lend a hand (or, in some cases, a paw) in unloading the 15,000 copies of the Big and Little Kids Book. The books will be distributed countywide during the next several weeks.

“We jump at the opportunity to lend a hand to YCCF. It’s our way to give back a little to those who give so much,” said Sergeant Jeff Hemphill, Prescott Police Department. “The relationship we have is truly unique.”

This is the fifth year that YCCF and First Things First partnered in the creation of the Big and Little Kids Book, an important resource for communities across the county.

“It’s been a tremendously well-received resource guide,” said Cindy Pemberton. “Families need to know about the variety of programs and services available for children across Yavapai County. It’s also a great guide for local businesses and service agencies.”

The Big and Little Kids Book will be available at 240 locations, including schools, public libraries, social service organizations and medical facilities. Families are welcomed to pick up a copy at any of these locations. An online version is also available at www.yavapaikidsbook.org.

The Yavapai County Community Foundation is a 20-year-old permanent philanthropic endowment for the enduring benefit of our community. Its mission is to lead, serve and collaborate to mobilize enduring philanthropy for a better Yavapai County. An affiliate of the Arizona Community Foundation, YCCF secures, manages and allocates donors’ gifts for charitable purposes in the County while working to improve the quality of life for local residents. During the 12-month period ending March 31, 2013, the Yavapai County Community Foundation awarded nearly $200,000 in discretionary grants and $504,056 in grants from advised funds. Since inception, YCCF has awarded more than $7.6 million in grants and scholarships.
